New Classe Schedule

Starting March 4, 2014

Introduction to Herbal Medicine

6 WEEK CLASS

We cover the history of medicinal herbs, over 50 main medicinal herbs and their everyday uses, their actions, and doses, preparing-making herbal remedies and medicine-making techniques, building your personal herbal-apothecary: infusions, decoctions, poultices, etc every week, as well as poisonous plants (including herbs).

What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine involves the use of plants or plant-derived formulas to prevent or cure disease. The use of herbal medicine has been widespread throughout history - it was the forerunner to modern medicine. Many of today's common drugs are actually derived from herbal preparations - for example, the active ingredient in aspirin is similar to (and a chemical simulation of) one found in willow bark. The World Health Organization (www.who.int) estimates that 80% of the world's population still relies primarily on herbal remedies to treat healthcare needs.

Herbal medicine is an ancient art, and yet one with many modern applications and exciting new discoveries. If you would like to study how herbs and natural remedies can be used to prevent or treat all manner of diseases and ailments, you might like to study herbal healing. There are 3 levels to our Herbal Education Program. You are welcome to take just one level, or two levels, or progress through all 3 levels. Completion of each level entitles you to a certificate of completion.
